'FASHION FRIDAY'

FASHION INSTALLATION AT KIASMA MUSEUM

'Fashion Friday' Event at the KIASMA museum, 25th of May, 2018

           Content of the exhibition:

Fashion installation and conversation on fashion as the art of identity in the spirit of Grayson Perry.

Fashion is about identity. We all wear clothes to express our personalities, feelings and belonging to a particular group of people. Following the artist Grayson Perry’s alter ego Claire and the fashion scholar Elizabeth Wilson’s statement of fashioned individuals as “walking collages, artworks, and contemporary installations”, Fashion Friday focuses on the question of identity.

How do contemporary fashion designers interpret identity as gendered, sexualized or ethnic?
How about national identity – does it play a role in fashion?

Fashion Friday consists of two parts: a fashion installation curated from the collections of Aalto University’s fashion design students, and a conversation on fashion, art, and identity by leading international scholars of fashion.

            Speakers:

Professor Hazel Clark, Parsons School of Design (New York)
Curator and fashion historian Shaun Cole, LCF – London College of Fashion (London)
Research Fellow in Sociology of Fashion Anna-Mari Almila, LCF – London College of Fashion (London)
Moderator of the conversation and curator of the installation: Professor Annamari Vänskä, Aalto University

             Participation:

At the 'Fashion Friday' Event in the Kiasma museum, Helsinki I presented two looks from the Communication Tube AW17 Menswear Collection: red oversized trench-coat with berry spotted silk dress & military patched trench-coat with golden-green silk dress + customized shoes. In addition, my designs were mentioned and used in the conversation on fashion at the 'Fashion Friday' panel. The photos of the designs at the exhibition are presented in the gallery in the beginning of the post. And the full-length video of the conversation is available to watch down below.

Thank you so much to Professor Annamari Vänskä for amazing support at the event & Aalto University & Kiasma for organizing it!
